Artist Ramon Nikaj

Netherlands | 1972, Netherlands

About me

Ramon Nikaj was born in 1972 and grew up in Drenthe, in the northern part of the Netherlands. Roaming the countryside at an early age, he developed a strong interest in animals and plants.
He also felt the stirrings of a need to express himself creatively in a variety of ways. Upon completing secondary school, he attended the Eindhoven Design Academy for a year and spent another four years at the Utrecht Academy of Arts, following fine arts and design programmes.
Ramon lived and worked in Utrecht until 2005, when he returned to Drenthe and took up photography in a much more intensive way.

His inspiration comes principally from the abundance of nature in his immediate surroundings. In addition, using several techniques, he records everything that fascinates him and/or manipulates it in order to create new images. A lot of his creations are images that present themselves to him in all of nature’s astonishing manifestations, to which he may add touches that are a result of his own contemplation. Thus, Ramon creates images that are at times recognisable yet in some cases leave a great deal to ponder and imagine.

In addition to being inspired by nature itself, he is fascinated by what others ‘leave behind’.
He will work these objects in his own way by introducing mutations, adding drawings or creating more elaborate mixed-media combinations. This results in painterly compositions that may enchant the viewer.
