About me

Petra Arnold in Heidelberg, lives in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region and is active in Germany and foreign countries.

Her work does inhabit primarily classical photographic genres - portraits and reportage - yet the lines between documentation and art are blurred. Alongside portraits, interesting and borderline characters, the artist also focuses on street photography.

In her extensive reportage work, Arnold sometimes follows people for months or years, actually becoming part of the group herself for that period. This is the only possible way to capture personal pictures from people lives that allow an intimate insight into the characters within their social circle. When you put the individual pictures together, they create stories - just like a visual diary.

A constant feature of her works, greatly varied as they are, is their filmic character. Her pictures often remind one of frozen scenes or film posters. The photographer describes the search for authentic moments as her greatest motivation - always aware that pictures and emotions tell of their own reality.
