Artist Ms Tina Jokitalo

Finland | 1972, Sweden

About me

For nearly ten years I worked as a freelancer visual designer in the theater, a lighting designer who visualized the illusion on stage through set design, lighting design and video. Since 2007, I started a new journey, exploring the language of photography and video as a medium of expression. In this playground, I have alternatives of ways and means expressing myself; artistic freedom along the process of conscious and subconscious intentions. I feel that my work is influenced by the visual language of the theater, but I am also thriving to push the boundaries of the photography itself. By staging my work on different materials such as pigment transfer work, I continue to revive the physical presence of the photography, which in turn gives me the opportunity, to personalize the subject as an unique and handcrafted statement by the artist herself. My latest ongoing work is a project called The Female Playground, it already includes two series and one video, for the third series I am further developing the process, through a collaboration in a contemporary theater project called Hypatia. This journey of mine, is full of playfulness and emotions, with light as its constant reminder of inspiration.
